One Of The Best Natural Paraben Free Lip Balms | Paraben Free Beauty

I don't know about you but I seem to always be on a hunt for a new lip balm to try. They are just one of the beauty products which always attract my attention on the isle. In my recent bid to try more natural, paraben free beauty products, I came across one good old classic lip balm. Many years ago, when I first discovered You tube, I also discovered that this product was very popular especially in the United States. I never tried one until recently and I cannot understand what took me so long! But now, I am committed! This is one of the best lip balms I have ever tried! I am talking about an Evolution Of Smooth Lip balm!

The coconut milk flavour is the one I have tried and I know that I will be going back to try some more flavours. EOS has quite an assortment of lip balm flavours and as far as I could see, all of them are made with majority natural ingredients with some even having organic additions! For thier price, for how long they last on your lips and in their cute spheres, I give a round of applauds to this lip saver! I have heard of fake version being sold on ebay for pretty much the same price, therefore  I made sure to get mine from a trusted source in order to fully experience the raved about goodness. Next to try are the Pomegranate & Rasperry Balm and the Summer Fruit Balm.

Full of good oils, butters and vitamin enriched, the coconut milk lip balms is intensely moisturising! All of their current lip balms, as far as I could see, have no parabens, phthalates, petroleum or gluten. The lip balm flavours I found on their site are 99% natural with some of them being 95% organic and 100% natural. I could not believe just how instantly and incredibly soft it made my lips, and get this, the soft moisturised feeling stayed all day! Even after a meal or hot drink, I could still feel the moisturised effect and if any retouch was needed at all, well it was only a little! I absolutely love this lip balm and would definitely recommend it any day to anyone, all weathers.

Most of us ladies know of that one "universally" appreciated wardrobe essential. The little black dress! Adding a bit of glamour and non overpowering glitz, I share my "little sequin dress". A decent outfit with a bit of glamour, which can be worn for a dressed up dinner out or to your end of year occasions! This is the second of my Style Board Series, you can also find Style Board #1 Here.

The Dress
A gorgeous two toned sequin number with a flare skirt, sequin bodice and a patent belt for a very good sale price. I must say that I am absolutely in love with this dress! A great combination of decent and statement when worn with tights especially for the weather! Elegant sequins and the never out of fashion navy on the bodice gives extra sophistication. The bodice has a round neck with an added pleat detail, as well as a v-back with a zip fastening. Navy and black, though similar colours, each stand out because of the sequin and patent accents!

Shoes And Accessories
Continuing with the navy scheme, I added a pair of two-tone navy and red ankle strap court heels with just the right height. I chose these mademoiselle shoes firstly because of the colour combination but also because they provide great support with the ankle straps. For a feminine touch, add some diamante and pearl studs as the only jewellery piece. Keeping red as an accent and for a slight edge, add a red or maroon clutch to complete the look whiles keeping warm on the way with a simple winter coat and a faux fur scarf. Beautiful!

I absolutely love this look and enjoyed putting it together. Below are similar sequin dresses which can by styled this way for your dressed up dinner out and occasions.

How To Make A Healthy Tasty Baked Chicken | Simple Recipe

A good protein always makes a great accompaniment to a healthy meal when trying to loose weight or simply eat healthier. When cooked with some nice ingredients, chicken is a great source of protein which will help you stay fuller for longer whiles giving your palate something nice to savour. Here is my recipe on how I make some healthy baked chicken to go with your healthy meal. This the chicken I had with in my previous healthy fried rice recipe. This recipe is versatile as you can skip one ingredient in order to tailor it to your own taste. Don't forget to check out some other healthy recipes Here and Here

The first step to making your chicken healthier in this recipe, is to remove the skin and cut away any visible fats. Prepare your chicken thighs by doing this and by nicely washing them. The next step to making your chicken healthier is to use a little bit of extra virgin olive oil which generally is a healthier oil for cooking compared to some other oils. Below are the ingredients you will need.

Ingredients
This recipe makes 4 servings and can be pre-prepared and left to marinate in the fridge.
Healthy Baked Chicken ingredients
Ingredients
  • 4 chicken thighs (skin and fats removed)
  • 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp of some red pepper powder e.g. cayenne (optional for heat unless like me, you thrive on hot pepper!)
  • 1/2 tsp of ground peppercorns/black pepper
  • 1 tsp of everyday seasoning (I used Dunn's River)
  • 1/2 tsp of thyme
  • 1 tsp of garlic paste

Tools
  • A baking dish
  • A plate
  • A teaspoon
  • A tablespoon

Directions
1. Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees celsius and prepare your chicken as mentioned by removing the skin and fats.
2. The next step is to make your marinade. Into your baking dish, transfer your olive oil, (red pepper powder) and peppercorns/black pepper.

4. Mix the ingredients together. As only a tablespoon of oil was used, the mixture will form a paste which will coat the chicken a lot easier for a nicer taste.

5. Tranfer your chicken into the marinade and begin to coat them with the mixture using your spoon. If you are one who doesn't mind using your hands on chicken, then go right ahead and give your chicken a good massage. This will enable the marinade to better seep into the chicken.

6. Once you are done, your chicken will look something like this. At this stage you can cover the chicken and leave it in the fridge to marinate some more if you are cooking later. If not, leave it on the counter top for just about 10 minutes to marinate further.

7. Into the oven the chicken goes. Allow to bake for about 15 minutes to begin with.

8. After 15 minutes, carefully pull the baking dish out and lightly cut into the top of the chicken with a sharp knife. This will let out any blood which is still lurking in the chicken thereby allowing them to cook well and more quickly. As you can see, I still had some blood in there.
9. After this step, leave the chicken to cook for a further 15 minutes or until theres no more blood when you press down on them.

10. Et Voila! Your healthy baked spicy or not chicken is ready. I had mine with some healthy spicy whole wheat noodle.

Do try your hands on this recipe and if you do, I would love to know how it went @yvonnedzifa on twitter or Instagram. Don't forget to skip the red pepper powder if you don't take much heat as it does give the chicken some heat. Finally, chicken or turkey, which do you prefer?

In this post I share swatches and reviews of some Dr Hauschka paraben free and lead free makeup products. If you have been looking for makeup which is less toxic or harmful and with good, natural and even organic ingredients, this post will be helpful. Even if you are not too fussed, you could still consider these items. Included in this post also, are the ingredients lists for each item as well as links to where you can get them.

In a recent post, I shared some Paraben And Lead Free Beauty products which I wanted to try in a bid to make more informed choices and gradually switch over to healthier beauty products. If you haven't already seen it, click Here to take a peek. With the discovery of harmful chemicals in more products in the beauty industry, there has been a push for the use of more natural ingredients and less toxic chemicals. When it comes to the said types of beauty products, one brand I recently discovered and would like to explore more of is the Dr Hauschka brand. I decided to try two of their Lipstick as well as their Kajal Eyeliner to see how they compare with paraben and lead containing competitors. Also just to see if I could adopt them as my new and go-to items.

Dr Hauschka Lipstick
The two lipsticks shades which I decided to try are #01 Soft Coral and #04 Warm Red. I chose these two because I wanted to try one lighter shade and one vibrant shade. This lipstick line comes in nine shades currently and they are all natural and organic! Yaas!! According to the brand, this lipstick line from Dr Hauschka is also free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, parabens, mineral oils and PEG. Where possible, it is said that all raw materials used in this line of lipsticks are from controlled organic sources.

Packaging
To begin with, the first thing I love about these lipsticks are the packaging. A very gorgeous well thought of gold metal sturdy packaging with a lovely belt display of the brand name and logo as shown in the beginning of this post.

Review
These two lipsticks as a whole are very moisturising to the lips. If you ignore the colours, it literally feels as though you are wearing a nice lip cream or balm, quite unlike the typical dry feel with a lot of lipsticks. Therefore, these lipsticks have a smooth texture. I found that when I first smacked my lips after an application, I got a small line across my top lip where a bit of the products had rubbed off. I found also, that this was generally because of the consistency and nothing that a bit of touch up could not fix. The ingredients listed below perhaps explains why this is, as majority of the ingredients are natural and oils. These ingredients give the lipsticks a bit of slip though they do last on the lips all the same. However, after a meal, a touch up may be required. Wearing these lipsticks, I did not worry about ingesting the product, not that I particularly enjoy eating lipsticks. It takes an extra weight off the shoulders when you don't have to worry about what or how much toxins you are ingesting. Therefore, for this reason, I definitely love these lipsticks and will keep using them.

Swatches
#01 Soft Coral
This shade is a light and soft coral pink shade as the name suggests. The pigmentation was not compromised and is actually very good for an all natural lipstick. It has a more smooth slip to it compared to #04. As a result, Soft Coral requires a little bit more product to give a neat even look. This shade also has a more shiny outcome .
Dr Hauschka Lipstick #01 And #04 Swatches
Dr Hauschka Lipstick #01 And #04 Swatches

#04 Warm Red
I found this shade to be very beautiful and my favourite of the two. The pigmentation is even better on this shade, very lovely, red and vibrant. It is not as shiny as #01 and seems more on the matte side. However this shade also has a smooth feel to it due to the natural ingredients. Out of the two, this shade lasted a bit longer and seemed to hold on better also. If you are looking for a natural red lipstick which moisturises your lips, definitely give these a try!

#01 And #04 Ingredients
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Lanolin, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Wax, Fragrance (Parfum), Linalool*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Farnesol*, Limonene*, Geraniol*, Benzyl Salicylate*, Eugenol*, Citronellol*, Benzyl Alcohol*, Lecithin, Silica. [May contain (+/-) Mica, Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 7749¹, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)].*component of natural essential oils

Dr Hauschka Kajal Eyeliner
The second beauty product I tried from Dr Hauschka is the Kajal Eyeliner. I wanted to try this because I was looking for a kajal eyeliner with good ingredients as my waterlines tend to feel uneasy with kohl eyeliners. I purchased #05 Black to try. According to the website, this eyeliner has a soothing effect from the witch hazel and black tea ingredients added. Also included are natural and organic ingredients.
Dr Hauschka Kajal Eyeliner #05 Black
Dr Hauschka Kajal Eyeliner #05 Black

Packaging
Again I love the packaging, continuing with the gold theme, some gold labelling. I particularly love the cap as it is something different from the mostly standard black caps.

Review
Well, lets see. As a whole, I do like this eyeliner because it is natural. It applies so easily due to the addition of two wax ingredients. It is indeed unbelievably smooth and I imagine this is due to the natural ingredients and oils. The pigmentation is actually quite good and I did not find that I needed extra application for a good look when first using it. However, I did find that the eyeliner does rub off a bit, although this can be good for eye looks which require some smudging on the lids or waterline. The website does advice the use of their liquid eyeliner, which you can get Here, in order to intensify the effect on the eyelid only. If you are more concerned about the ingredient types in your eyeliner, then I would recommend this eyeliner if you are happy to touch up or be more careful with your hands around your eyes. Again a bit of weight off the shoulders knowing this eyeliner has natural ingredients which won't be too worrying to the eyes.

Swatches
As you can see, the pigmentation again is very good and I did not need to apply a lot or press down too much to get some product. However, as you can also see on the right hand side, it does transfer a bit.

Dr Hauschka Kajal Eyeliner #05 Black Swatches
#05 Black Ingredients
Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Mica, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Canola Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Pyrus Cydonia Peel/Fruit Wax, Diatomaceous Earth (Solum Diatomeae), Glyceryl Caprylate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf Extract, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Fragrance (Parfum), Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Linalool*, Iron Oxides (CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Ultramarines (CI 77007).*component of natural essential oils

To Conclude, I love these products and would continue to use them taking the necessary precautions during the day in order to maintain my makeup look. Personally I am more for paraben free, lead free and natural ingredients than any thing else. If you are too, then definitely give these a try. However, if you are not, you can still try them and see if they might work for you. As everyone is different, these might look and feel different on you.

5 Tips And Tricks To Keep You Fuller For Longer | Weight Loss Journey

The feeling of not being full after a good meal may be due to a number of different factors. It could be due to a lack of nutritious snacking during the day or missing a meal. What ever it may be, here are some tips you could consider in order to trick your body into staying full after a good meal. We Can Do It!
5 tips and tricks to keep you fuller for longer
Stay Full With These Tips

One thing I have been trying to work on with my own weight loss journey is portion sizing. Applying these tips have really helped me and I hope they help you too. Portion sizing is admittedly a challenge for those who may have never really considered it much in the past. I don't eat huge amounts as like most people, my stomach can only really take so much. However, spending some efforts in increasing the size of the vegetables on my plate whiles decreasing the size of carbohydrates is something I try to work on daily. These efforts in portion sizing can sometimes be faced with the challenge of not feeling full when technically, you are.

1. "Ave A Cuppa" -  Drink Some Tea Before Meals
5 tips and tricks to keep you fuller for longer a cup of tea
A Cup Of Tea Before Meals
Especially before meals, having a cup of tea is a good solution. A mug of english tea does the trick a lot of the times for me. To make it healthier, I only ever use almond milk and honey, having given up cows milk and sugar for more than a year now. If allergic to nuts, oat milk is a great alternative which is even more filling. The use of honey instead of sugar also means that you don't have to worry so much about the amount of sugar you might be taking in. When feeling very hungry, the body might try to force you into ignoring this step and going straight to random snacking or a big portion of food. However trying this can be really helpful as it fills you up a little and can help you in your portion size journey. Also, ending a meal with a herbal tea such as green tea or ginger and lime tea gives a refreshing feel whiles keeping you full.

2. Chew Your Snacks One At A Time [My Personal Story]
5 tips and tricks to keep you fuller for longer chew for longer
Chewing Your Healthy Snack One At A Time
This is something that I recently discovered when trying to eat healthier snacks. One night, I was particularly craving for sugary snacks, the very thing I am trying to avoid and eat less of. There was none at home as my husband and I have taken the initiative to only shop for and take home, healthy foods. This way, if I ever crave anything unhealthy, I would have to walk 30 minutes to get one! So on this particular night, I decided "ok I will snack on my current favourite nuts". Cashew nuts. Defiantly, I grabed my nuts jar and begun to eat the nuts one at a time, taking my time to chew well on each nut because it wasn't really what I wanted. Almost like forcing a child who does not like pea to eat peas. Accidentally, I found that by doing this, I tricked my body into actually enjoying the cashews more and becoming full very quickly. I ate less than a hand full of nuts but my sugar craving was gone. And since then, snacking on nuts by eating them one at a time has really helped me in those sugar-crave moment.

3. Drink Water Before Meals
5 tips and tricks to keep you fuller for longer drink water
Drink Some Water Before Meals
Just looking at the picture makes me thirsty! Where some people may be able to clearly tell the difference between being hungry and being thirsty always, sometimes, it may be tricky. I know for myself that this has been the case at time especially when I have not drunk enough water during the day. Drinking water throughout the day not only replenishes the body's water level, it could also help keep you full amongst many other benefits. Drink some water before your main meals and research shows that this could help you eat a healthier portion of your meals. Water can fill you up a little and help you eat less while staying fuller. A win win situation because you also get to hydrate yourself in the process. You could try drinking water before breakfast and before dinner to begin with and see how that works for you.

4. For The Crunchy Tooth- Snack On An Apple
5 tips and tricks to keep you fuller for longer eat a crunchy apple
Have A Crunchy Apple
Filled with good natural sugars, fibre and much more, an apple is also good for the crunch-loving teeth. Cutting an apple up into 8 slices, seeds removed, and applying tip two by eating it one at a time is a good trick. I find granny smith apples to be a good candidate as they are very crunchy, however your favourite apple will do as apples are generally crunchy. Another tip with apples is snacking on them with a little bit of nut butter such as peanut butter, if not allergic, for extra deliciousness.

5. Snack On Nuts
If allergic to nuts, some seeds, olives or avocados in moderations are good alternatives. Though nuts are high in calories, snacking on them in moderation is actually more nutritious than a bag of crisps. Due to their high protein contents, they are also able to keep you fuller for longer, and as in tip number 2, eating them one at a time can help you manage your intake. Nuts are a good alternatives for sugary processed snacks which tend to increase blood sugar levels as quickly as they drop it, leading to more hunger and cravings.

Nuts Are Great

I hope these tips work well for you! Are any of these snacks your go-to or favourites? Do let me know in the comments below.

3 Top Natural Oils Which Penetrate Your Hair Strands | For Healthier Hair Care

Natural oils are one of the best gifts from nature, therefore it is no surprise that they are used more and more to enhance many hair and body products today. One thing that natural oils are especially good for is promoting the health of all hair but especially dry hair. In this post, I share three top oils which have been found to be more helpful in enhancing healthy hair, promoting hair growth and moisturising hair and skin.

top oils which penetrate the hair

Natural Oils
There are a good number of natural oils with a lot of good properties and benefits. Some oils are great as sealants, which means that they coat the hair strands in order to lock moisture in and increase shine. Others are good moisturisers as they penetrate the hair strands and increase moisture and elasticity.

Why The Hair Benefits From Penetrating Oils
Oils which are able to seep into the hair are great to use as a pre-shampoo treatment as well as deep conditioners. Using these types of oils as a treatment before a shampoo step could control cuticle expansion and the amount of water that the hair soaks up.

During a hair wash, hygral fatigue occurs. This is just a 'fancy' phrase for when hair strands swell up from water, causing the cuticles of the hair to lift and lower when letting water in and out. Happening a few times, this can cause splits and damage eventually when drying the hair.

As explained in this previous post about the hair structure, hair has natural oils as part of its makeup. Though these oils help moisturise the hair naturally, some people may lack it while others may have too much of it. This is part of what causes dry hair and greasy hair problems. A penetrative oil enhances the condition of dry hair especially in curlier, coilier and kinky hair types such as 4c.

The following three oils are part of the few which have been found to have molecules small enough to actually penetrate the hair shaft and skin. Saving the best for the last, lets begin with:

Avocado Oil
Rich in vitamins, avocado oil also has a very high penetration ability for skin and hair. Therefore it is great for scalp and hair use for healthy hair growth. It can also be mixed with your favourite essential oils or other penetrative oils for added benefit. Try using it as a pre-shampoo treatment, in your deep conditioner or to moisturise your hair. Olive oil may also penetrate and moisturise hair strands. It has been used in ancient times as an antimicrobial treatment agent and for cleansing. Use this oil in your deep conditioner treatment, as a pre-shampoo treatment and as a hair sealant.  Get 1Litre Here or 500ml Here.

Coconut Oil
Saving the best for the last, this is the most known for its penetrative, moisturising and sealing properties. Whip coconut oil to make a coconut oil butter, or mix it with other good oils, like I did in this previous post to make a home made hair and body butter. Coconut oil is the best oil known to be readily absorbed into the skin and hair. Used in ancient times to groom hair, prevent hair loss and damage, it is also excellent as a hair conditioner, to control dandruff, for hair styling and for dry hair treatment. It works very well in preventing split ends and restoring moisture back to the oldest parts of our hair, our ends. It also strengthens the hair by decreasing protein loss.
